Who should own your domain name?
Your organisation should remain the registrant even when a service provider manages the technical work.
Many organisations inspect their domain registration only when they need to change suppliers. That is too late to discover that somebody else is listed as the owner.
How Marrytek handles it
The domain belongs to your organisation and is registered in its name. Marrytek may manage DNS, renewal and SSL with your authorisation, but your transfer rights remain intact. Registration and renewal are billed separately at the registrar's actual price.
If you have no domain at all
Your website runs at yourname.marrytek.com. That subdomain belongs to Marrytek, so it does not move with you when the agreement ends. For an address you will print on cards and signs for years, register your own domain.
Three questions to ask
- Whose legal name will be listed as the registrant?
- Can I transfer the domain when the agreement ends?
- Can I export my website content when I leave?
